What tricks do you use when you go out to eat to be able to stay on track? Let other readers know in the comment section! | Just because you're going out to eat (be it breakfast, lunch or dinner) or you're getting take out doesn't mean you HAVE to cheat. Most restaurants allow you to sub foods & you are able to say "no cheese" or "No bun" etc. When I go out to eat one of my favorite things to get is Buffalo Wings..This I am allowed to eat on my specific diet. I just have to make sure that it's not "Fried" or brushed with Flour before being cooked. Occasionally I hear "we can't guarantee it." This usually just means that it's not a GLUTEN FREE ENVIRONMENT. Legally they have to say that. If you are Dairy Free and LOVE burgers you can simply say No cheese and replace the cheese with other delicious ingredients whether it be Mushrooms, Onions, Roasted Peppers, Etc. You DON'T NEED the cheese. You can also always go with a Salad. I know, I know.. If you're anything like me you don't want to go out and spend $15.00 on a salad that you can easily make at home. But, don't be fooled!! Just because the menu says, "Salad" doesn't mean it's boring and unsatisfying. Last night for example we ordered take out from Millers Ale House and I got there Southwest Steak Salad. And let me tell you...IT WAS DELICIOUS and I would order it over and over and over again! It had steak, corn, cucumbers, tortilla strips, onions, and a few more other items. There were two dressings - one I wasn't sure what it was but tasted it and wasn't fond of it. The other was like a spicy honey mustard? It was SOO GOOD!! After finishing it I was completely full and satisfied and didn't even want to eat anything later on in the night. In my opinion diets like Dairy Free and Gluten Free are a lot harder when virtually you CAN have it, unlike others who are allergic to wheat or dairy. Being allergic to wheat or dairy gives you that PUSH on why you can't have it. Even if you crave it you don't want it at the same time because you don't want to have to deal with the health consequences afterwards (I'm assuming!). But, when you CAN have it without any health consequence there are those times where it's like "why the heck not" "let me cheat just this once" and then you do. I had a day like that today when I didn't bring lunch to work. All I wanted was a sandwich and I went out and got one. It was DELICIOUS, but... I now regret it and I'm kicking myself. Had a delicious dinner tonight (take out) that was healthy...gluten free...dairy free... and now I feel better but tomorrow...no cheating. Whenever you can prepare your food for the week. but if you can't and you go out to eat make sure you have some self control and order deliciousness swapped out with other, healthier delicousnesses (not a word haha). A Few Tips: *Ask for a gluten free/dairy free menu *Ask for a nutrition chart *Order fast so you're not persuaded by the menu to buy what you can't eat *Go in knowing what you want and don't even look at the menu |
